Synopsis

“It’s time to live in the light, Ella…”

With their attraction too explosive to ignore, Cassian Court has whisked Mishella Santelle from her tiny island kingdom to the empire he rules: New York City. Here, they have succumbed to the magic of Temptation Manor, surrendering to their lust—and a love that won’t be denied.

But happiness is nearly ripped away, when an act of heroism turns Cassian into a target of violence…from which physical recovery is only the beginning of healing. Cassian must find a way to expose his emotional scars too—meaning he must visit a past refusing to release him from its haunting grip.

“Take me into the darkness, Cassian…”

What are the secrets of Turret Two? Once revealed, will they clear a path for new connection to Ella…or anchor him deeper in the past as they struggle with the challenges of the present? Being touted as New York’s fresh “it” couple is insane enough—but just when Ella decides she’s had enough of being the city’s perfect little toy, a shocking visitor changes everything…and she must accept an even more agonizing reality.

Deception isn’t always black and white. And sometimes, the prettiest toy hides the darkest secrets.

AboutTheAuthor

Hi there. I’m Angel: book lover, writing addict, hopeless romantic, pop culture geek and avid shoe lover.

**I have a monthly newsletter now! Sign up for it right here: http://eepurl.com/LoNkz. It’s a cool way to get exclusive info, talk hot heroes, learn about new items in the Angel Payne store, talk hot heroes, further the pie or cake debate…and oh yeah, did I mention talking hot heroes?

A bit about me…

I’ve been hooked on books since I was a kid but it got worse in my twenties, when I discovered romances–the hotter, the better. Growing up in Southern California, with lots of surfer manliness surrounded me, was certainly a good boost for reading about delicious alpha guys and the women who adore them. When I learned I had a knack for telling these stories too, I guess you could say I was doomed–though my path toward romance novelist took a few detours via a concert-reviewing gig for my college newspaper (free show tickets…backstage passes…that was a no-brainer), artist interviews for a Beverly Hills dance music mag, personal assistant work for a record producer, dance club disc jockey, and a lot of fun in the hospitality industry.

These days, I still live in California, and have found an amazing alpha guy of my own who was brave enough to marry me. We live on a street that looks like Brigadoon, with our beautiful daughter. I have the best life ever, and never forget to thank the Big Guy Upstairs for it, either.

BLURB:

Pamela Landers had it all, a senior partnership with a top law firm, expensive car, and a luxurious condo. What she desired most was a loving husband, children and a life filled with precious memories that would comfort her through her golden years.

Funny how fate has a way of steering you down that path where dreams really can come true. When Pamela encounters Gavin Templeton along her journey, she has some life-altering decisions to make that eventually lead her to happily ever after.

Excerpt:

“Nice to meet you, Mr. Templeton. I’ve been trying to get to Sugar Run for the past two years, but …” she paused. “I just don’t know how to say no to my boss.”

He chuckled and pointed her way.

“Well, good for you. All work and no play … well, you know the rest.” He interjected.

Then she thought. I’ll be damned. She knew that name. Everyone knew the Templeton name. She was rather titillated by his attention. The Templeton’s, were quite known in the Northeast. Not only was Sugar Run a rather luxurious five-star resort, but his family had acquired over fifty acres of prime lakefront property and started developing it into one of the most eloquent gated communities that would offer luxurious 2-3-bedroom town homes, a 9-hole golf course, and private country club.
The cleft in his chin was more prominent when he smiled and it pleased her to know she was the cause of the sparkle in his eyes.

“And, please, call me Gavin.”

Her voice shook a little. “Pamela Landers … my name, that is and, thank you for sharing your table.”

The waitress arrived, took both of their orders, and refilled their coffee cups.

“So, tell me Pamela, what line of work occupies your every waking moment?”

“Law,” she answered. “My niche is wrongful death.”

The look that registered on his face made her wonder, if the legal field was something he found distasteful. She did not know why, but she wanted his approval. His opinion of her somehow mattered.

“Do you ski, Gavin?”

“Not an Olympic hopeful mind you, but I manage to make it to the bottom without breaking my neck.”

Pamela giggled.

His cell phone went off and he excused himself, as he rose and moved from the table. He was only gone for a matter of moments. When he returned to the table and rejoined her, he asked the waitress to bring him the check right away.

Pamela tried to hide her disappointment.

“Pressing business?” She asked, trying to keep the disappointment from her voice.

Gavin’s was evident as he sighed heavily. “I’m afraid so. There’s something I must attend to in Ashbury that needs my attention.” He rose and handed the waitress two twenty-dollar bills and told her to keep the change.

Pamela shook her head and raised her hand to argue but, he waved it off.

“Please, it was my pleasure to meet you.” His smile was warm and genuine. “Perhaps, you’ll join me for a cocktail this evening. I’ll send a note to your room.”

Pamela returned his smile. “Um, that would be nice,” she waved her finger at him, “but, the drinks are on me or, it’s a no.”

Gavin reached for her hand, and drew it to his lips, and stroked it tenderly with his thumb. “How can I refuse? Until later this evening then.” He bowed slightly and turned to exit.

Pamela was exuberant as she watched him leave, appreciating how well the jeans he was wearing fit around a rather nice tight ass and well-muscled thighs. Pamela relaxed and played back their meeting in her mind. Talk about fate … it was all rather unexpected and the immediate attraction she felt for him was even more surprising. She looked down at the thick, crisp waffles on her plate and began devouring them with a hunger that was as strong as her desire to meet up with the dashing and charming owner of Sugar Run.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

My love of reading romance fiction goes back to those early years when I was raising a young family. It wasn’t until much later in life I actually took up the pen to write my first historical romance, Wind Warrior. I really don’t fit into one specific niche. Once a story starts to flow, it’s only then I know what genre/sub-genre it will fit under.

I have only one regret, and that is not getting to this point in my career much sooner, rather than later. Life has a way of setting up road blocks, which for me, was supposed to work out that way. Because of those detours, I have become a more passionate and expressive writer, allowing me to create the kind of raw human emotion I want my readership to feel.
It is my hope you walk away with not just an entertaining read, but the importance in knowing, “Without imagination & dreams, we lose the excitement of wonderful possibilities.”

book blurb

THE KING OF WALL STREET IS BROUGHT TO HIS KNEES BY AN AMBITIOUS BOMBSHELL.

I keep my two worlds separate.

At work, I’m King of Wall Street. The heaviest hitters in Manhattan come to me to make money. They do whatever I say because I’m always right. I’m shrewd. Exacting. Some say ruthless.

At home, I’m a single dad trying to keep his fourteen year old daughter a kid for as long as possible. If my daughter does what I say, somewhere there’s a snowball surviving in hell. And nothing I say is ever right.

When Harper Jayne starts as a junior researcher at my firm, the barriers between my worlds begin to dissolve. She’s the most infuriating woman I’ve ever worked with.

I don’t like the way she bends over the photocopier—it makes my mouth water.

I hate the way she’s so eager to do a good job—it makes my dick twitch.

And I can’t stand the way she wears her hair up exposing her long neck. It makes me want to strip her naked, bend her over my desk and trail my tongue all over her body.
If my two worlds are going to collide, Harper Jayne will have to learn that I don’t just rule the boardroom. I’m in charge of the bedroom, too.

excerpt

Max

Harper Jayne was really pissing me off.

She’d irritated me from the moment she’d started work almost two months ago. Up until now I’d managed to keep my distance.

She was smart. That wasn’t a problem.

And she got on with her co-workers well enough. I couldn’t complain.

She didn’t seem to mind helping Donna with the photocopier. There were no delusions of grandeur for me to moan about.

She was eager to learn. That had been one of the first things that grated on me. She was too eager. The way she looked at me with those big brown eyes as if she’d be willing to do just about anything I suggested was maddening. Every time I glanced at her, even if it was a glimpse of her in the kitchen as I came into the office, I imagined her sliding to her knees in my office, opening her red, wet mouth, and begging for my cock.

And that was a problem.

I always had a strict divide between my business life and my personal life, and there’d never been any exception. I was the boss, with a reputation to protect. I didn’t want my personal life to ever be more interesting that my business life.

I tapped my pen against my desk. I needed to figure this out. Either fire her or forget about her. But I needed to do something.

I found myself spending more and more time in my office with the door closed in an attempt to create some distance between Harper and me. Ordinarily, I’d spend time out on the floor with people, checking in on how things were going. But the open-plan area felt like contaminated land. When I had to interact with her, I addressed her as Ms. Jayne as a way of keeping her at arm’s length. It wasn’t working. I pushed my hands into my hair. I needed a plan. I couldn’t have some junior researcher changing the way I did business, because the way I did business had meant King & Associates was the best at what they did, and the whole of Wall Street knew it.

Breaking Hearts (Storybook Lake) by [Shirley, Melissa]

Breaking Hearts
by Melissa Shirley

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:lyrical
Can tragedies have a happy ending in Storybook Lake?
Every town has one—a mean girl, hell-bent on taking down everything in her path—and Danielle Ranier played the role to a tee. She broke up Storybook Lake’s most beloved couple and to save herself from a lifetime of lectures on morality, she hopped on the first plane out of town. Six years, one child, and a big secret later, she’s back, fleeing from her abusive husband, who isn’t quite willing to set her free. Now on trial for a murder she didn’t commit, Simon Hunter, the only man she’s ever loved is offering her a lifetime of love and security. If she could only reveal the secrets long-held inside her, a family that never was might finally come together . . .
Excerpt:
How it all started.
Since the moment I first noticed boys in fifth grade, Simon Hunter was the boy I saw myself growing old with. He had the best smile, the most expressive honey-colored eyes, and a way with people that made an entire town love him. Even when he didn’t know it, he was everything to me. Any minute I could sneak into his presence was a minute I savored and cherished.
When we got around to the business of being adults, our schedules seldom coordinated, but we spent most Fridays together. I’d skipped out on the last three, wanting him to see what it would be like without me. I wanted him to miss me with a desperate passion.
The missing only happened on my end, and I had the phone log to prove it. As it went to voice mail, I glared at my phone and left my tenth message…a pitiful, I-miss-you-please-call-me-and-let-me-know-you’re-okay kind of message. Since high school, he’d been my reason for waking up in the morning, the hero in the dreams I had every night, and the focus of all the moments in between. And damn it. Friday was our day.
After a quick makeup check, I left my apartment, the one we’d planned to share up until a few months ago when he started making all those trips to LA with Gatlin. I kicked the jealousy away with the toe of my shoe against a rock on the sidewalk.
For three full blocks, I took my frustration out on chunks of concrete until I strolled past the bakery. It took every ounce of my will not to press my nose against the window to see if he’d decided to loiter inside while his sister worked, or if he’d just run in to get some free pastries. His car was parked out front, so I leaned against it for a few minutes, waiting…remembering the first time he kissed me…the way his hand cupped the side of my face, the brush of his lips so softly over mine. Had we been sixteen? Seventeen? It was a lifetime ago.
Head Over Heels (Mama's Boys Book 3) by [Bright, Crystal B.]
Head Over Heels
by Crystal B. Bright
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Sometimes it takes hurt to open your heart…,
At twenty-two, Thane Wells is the highest-paid pitcher in Major League Baseball—and he owes it all to his adoptive Mama, “Queen” Elizabeth Sommerville, a wise, beautiful, entrepreneurial African-American woman who always encouraged him and his two white brothers to reach for the stars…the woman Thane still talks to daily. He never dreamed their most recent conversation would be their last. With his beloved supporter suddenly gone, Thane is grief-stricken, shaken, and vulnerable—especially to a woman like Kari Meyers.
Kari’s had her eye on Thane for a while, but strictly for business. As a junior sports agent, she’s hungry to sign him, especially when she hears his current agent will be retiring soon. When she finally locates Thane, she’s shocked to discover he’s attending his mother’s funeral—and he’s shocked to find Kari in his hotel room. Assuming she’s an escort is just the beginning of their misunderstandings. But one thing that’s clear is their mutual attraction. As a single mom with an NBA ex, Kari has a rule against dating athletes. Yet as circumstances bring the two closer together, they just might find they’re on the same team, heart and soul…
Excerpt:
“Hey!”
She turned, hoping to see Thane calling for her. Instead, she saw the other businessman who had been sitting with Alec Fogel. Out of curiosity, she waited as he walked up to her.
“Do I know you?” Kari asked as she held on to the strap of her purse.
“No. And I don’t know you, but I’d like to.” The statuesque older man ran his hand over his silver hair. “My name is Frank Milliner. I’m the owner of the Winning Edge Agency. I heard what you said in there to Thane Wells. What agency do you work at now?”
Kari regarded him for a moment before speaking. “I don’t. I was hoping to sign him up as my client.”
“Wait. You don’t work at an agency? How did you even know about him?”
Great. Another man who probably underestimated her passion for sports and her drive for a career. She would have to correct that perception right now.
“I could use someone like you in my company. I’m assuming you’ve finished school.” Frank crossed his arms over his chest as he studied her.
“Just graduated.”
He laughed and shook his head. “Yes, you are exactly what I need for my business. We should talk.” He tried to guide her back into the hotel.
Kari stayed cemented to the cracked walkway. “I’m not exactly welcome back in there. Can we meet somewhere else?”
Frank smiled. “Of course.”
Although she’d missed one opportunity, she hoped this one would turn out to be a winner. That didn’t mean she would be giving up on Thane Wells. He wouldn’t be the one who got away.
AboutTheAuthor
CD Bradley PIC
I’m just a girl who likes to daydream. Sometimes I write them down to share. Even as a little girl teachers would tell my parents I live in a world of my own. The literary world was my safe haven. Then we grow up. I practiced medicine in the ER and urgent care for the last 15 years. I started writing again while still working in the ER but put it aside when we opened our own clinic. Until last year my husband and I owned our own practice, we had two children and lived a somewhat normal life. Then in the span of a year we sold our practice, bought a 96 acre farm in the hills of West Virginia and adopted 3 of our patients ( ages 2,3,4) bringing our kid count up to five. It has been a crazy year full of ups and downs and learning to laugh at ourselves. Being mostly brought up in the city, managing a working farm with real farm creatures and ever lurking bears has been an adventure. Not to mention adjusting to being a mom of FIVE. But when things are rough I just laugh and tell stories. Because at the end of the day sometime laughter and love is all you have. Somewhere in the midst of kids and chickens, I managed to finish my first novel and dive deeply into the second. Writing at night or early in the morning while all the littles are asleep lets me escape into another world. I hope that you will enjoy the journey of the story as much as I have writing it. Pursue your dreams as if limits to your abilities do not exist.
BLURB
With a new wife and a new career as the co-owner of Phantom Force Tactical, retired U.S. Navy SEAL Blake Madison thinks he had it all. But when his wife disappears from their bed while he’s taking a morning jog, Blake has to figure out if it’s someone from her past as an investigative journalist—or his as a combat veteran and detective. Blake and his partner Nick “Colt” Colten assemble a team of the nation’s top warriors to take on the job of solving the crime. Will Phantom Force prove their worth and safe her life? Or will Blake lose both his private security company and the woman he loves to an unscrupulous rival bent on revenge?
excerpt
Excerpt
Blake Madison reached for the alarm at the first ding so it wouldn’t wake his wife.
“It’s Saturday,” Cait said sleepily, reaching for his arm. “Sleep in.”
“I’m going for a quick run.” He crawled out from under the covers, carefully moving their ninety-five-pound German shepherd, Max, off his legs. “It’s a lot of pressure having a young trophy wife. I have to stay in shape.”
She threw a pillow at him, but then reached over and ran her hand over his abs. “You’re doing a pretty good job. Feels like the body of a young Navy SEAL.”
He laughed. “Young? No. SEAL? Not anymore.” Then he leaned in close. “How do you know what the body of a young Navy SEAL feels like anyway?”
Her lips broke into a smile even though her eyes were closed. “Just guessing. Don’t worry, I prefer the old, retired model.”
“Good answer. I think.” Blake got up and fumbled around in the dim light to find a pair of sweatpants and a tee shirt. After getting dressed, he had almost reached the door when he heard a voice from beneath the covers.
“You forgot something.”
He came back and bent over Cait. “I know. But I was afraid I’d be tempted to crawl back into bed.”
“Good answer. I’m sure.” She reached up, grabbed a handful of his shirt, and pulled him down for a kiss, causing him to linger.
With his hands propped on each side of her pillow, he stared into her eyes. “Do you know how much I love you, Mrs. Madison?”
She grinned sleepily and pulled him close again. “Show me.”
He sighed. “I just did that a few hours ago. Remember?”
“Umm hmm.” She drew the words out with her eyes still closed and a contented smile on her face. “But that was last night.”
He glanced at the door, then back at the bed.
She must have sensed his hesitation. “I’m just kidding. We have all day. Go for your run.”
Blake lifted her hand off the covers and kissed it. “We’ve been married almost a year. We need to start acting like an old married couple, not newlyweds.”
Caitlin opened one eye momentarily. “Are you saying you want me to become a nag?”
“Only if you nag me about getting back into bed with you.”
He gave her another long kiss and then stood and stared down at her in the dim light. She was wearing his NAVY tee shirt—or as she called it, her favorite negligée—with the pearl necklace he’d given her the night before contrasting brightly against the dark blue. His gaze shifted to the wedding band on her hand and then drifted to her tousled hair spread out on the pillow, and her long lashes resting on her cheeks. He reconsidered his need for outdoor exercise.
“Bring me a cup of coffee when you get back,” she murmured, pulling the covers up and rolling over.
“I won’t be long, baby.” He headed toward the door and patted his leg for the dog to follow. “I’ll take Max so you don’t have to get up and let him out.”
“Love you.”
His heart flipped. “Love you more.”
Just as he started to close the door, she spoke again. “Don’t miss me too much.”
He grinned as the door clicked shut. She always said that when he left, even if they were only going to be separated for a few minutes. It had become a routine. Even the kids said it now when they left for school or went to visit a friend. Don’t miss me too much, Daddy.
Heading down the stairs, he turned off the security alarm and went out onto the porch, taking a deep breath of the cool morning air. After doing a few stretches, he sprinted down the gravel lane, his heart bursting with happiness and contentment. Until recently, Blake had been blind to the beauty of the scenes that surrounded him; now, he felt as if he were seeing the world through fresh eyes that noticed the gifts that had always been right in front of him.
He knew there was only one reason for that—and that reason was lying in the bed upstairs, waiting for him.
As he listened to the cadence of his feet hitting the dirt road and the sound of his steady breathing, his mind drifted to his upcoming wedding anniversary. He wanted to come up with something really special to celebrate—something that would show Cait how much she meant to him and the kids. It had been on his mind for weeks, but now the milestone moment loomed just days away, and he still didn’t know what that something was.
It had to be a gift that was special and personal, one unique enough to make Cait understand the depths of his affection. The pearl necklace he’d given her the night before as an “early present” had made her squeal with surprise and delight, but that was the kind of thing every husband got his wife.
Cait was different. Their circumstances were different. Although their marriage was a happy one, the months that had passed since they’d said their vows had not all been easy ones. Lots of changes had come about—some had tested their relationship, others had strengthened it. The fact that Cait had given up a successful journalism career to concentrate on becoming a wife to him and a mother to his children was a testament to her commitment. She had poured her heart and soul into making his life perfect. But he knew that choice had been a tougher adjustment than she let on.
Bypassing the security gate for vehicles he’d installed, Blake turned left at the end of their long driveway and continued on the dirt road toward the main thoroughfare. The gate seemed out of place in this peaceful country setting, but had become necessary after he and Cait had exposed a scandal at the U.S. State Department. They’d tried to keep a low profile and return to their private lives, but the press reports and social media campaigns from political fanatics made that impossible.
Blake glanced down at Max, who trotted contentedly beside him. The dog had been one security measure Cait had not argued about. In fact, it hadn’t taken Max long to move from protector to pet—Cait’s pet. Max followed her everywhere, including their bedroom. The longstanding house rule that dogs didn’t sleep on beds had been reluctantly withdrawn by the second week. Blake consoled himself with the knowledge that the connection between Cait and Max meant no one was going to get out of their house alive if the dog thought her life was in danger.
Passing the three-mile mark he knew by heart, Blake picked up his pace again. But just a few strides later, the image of Cait lying in bed pulled at him like a magnet, causing him to turn around before he’d made it to the main road. If the kids were still asleep, maybe he’d take a quick shower and re-join her.
Sprinting the last hundred yards, Blake was surprised when Max didn’t follow him up the porch but continued around the side of the house with his nose to the ground. The dog usually had a hearty appetite after a run and wanted to be fed immediately.
“Where you going, boy? Smell a raccoon or something?”
Blake let him go and entered the house to find his daughter, Whitney, walking slowly down the stairs, looking disheveled but wide awake.
So much for going back to bed.
“What are you doing up so early, young lady?”
He didn’t hear her answer as he continued into the kitchen, humming Oh What a Beautiful Morning from the show Oklahoma, then shook his head to rid it of the song.
Geez. If Colt heard me humming that, I’d never hear the end of it.
After turning on the coffee pot, he stood in the glow of the open refrigerator door, trying to figure out what he could scrounge up. Maybe he’d surprise Cait with breakfast in bed as another early anniversary gift.
Whitney shuffled into the room behind him in her big pink slippers and noisily pulled out a chair at the small kitchen table. “When is Cait coming back, Daddy?”
“What, honey?” Blake continued staring into the fridge. Having just turned four, Whitney talked a lot, but didn’t always make sense.
“When are those men bringing her back?”
Even before Blake could resolve in his mind what she’d said, his body responded as if he’d just heard the click of a trigger shattering the stillness of a dark night—and within the span of a heartbeat, the small twinge of alarm ignited into an urgent need to react. He closed the refrigerator door slowly, reminding himself to appear calm, even though the high-octane dose of adrenaline pulsing through his veins was making it difficult to breathe, let alone think. He turned to Whitney and knelt down beside her. “What men, honey? What are you talking about?”
“The mean ones.” Her eyes brimmed with tears.
Blake didn’t ask any more questions. He stood and turned in one movement.
Racing to the stairs, he took them two at a time and headed at a full sprint down the hallway to the master bedroom. He tried to enter the room quietly, but almost tore the door off its hinges in his urgency.
The bed was empty.
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Mackenzie Brooks is everything I’ve ever wanted.

Three years ago, she walked out of my life. No explanation. Just gone.

With the biggest fight of my career only weeks away, she walked back in.

I’ll do anything to protect her. Destroy anyone who tries to hurt her. When it comes to Mac, there isn’t a line I won’t cross.

I’ve loved her my entire life, and now that’s she’s back I won’t let her go.

She refuses to speak about the past, or the secrets I know she’s hiding.

I know she’s planning on running again. But when you love someone, you stay and fight. Even if you’re fighting blind.

Excerpt:

Her hands snake around my back and she rests her forehead against my chest. I pull her tight, reveling in the warmth of her body. My muscles tense in awareness of how perfectly she fits against me.

I breathe in her scent, not wanting the moment to pass. “Let me fix this.”

“You don’t even know what I’ve done.” Her voice is muffled against my chest. “If you knew, you wouldn’t…I can’t do this.”

“Whatever it is, it’s in the past. Come home with me and we’ll figure things out.”

She shakes her head against my chest and mumbles incoherently. When she pulls back, there are tears running down her cheeks and her eyes are red. I know before she says the words that she’s going to run again. Whatever she’s hiding, it’s obvious she doesn’t trust me.

A cold chill wraps around me when she drops her hands and takes a step backwards.

“I need to go.”

“Mac.” Her name comes out as a rough plea, and I see her flinch.

“Don’t come back,” she whispers, before disappearing through the shelter’s doors.

Like hell I won’t. Losing her once nearly destroyed me. I won’t lose her again.

GENRE: erotic thriller

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Stood up by her boyfriend, she goes home with a woman…
Straight-laced coed Angie has never felt daring enough to…experiment. Until tonight. The skin around Heather’s lips is soft, unlike the stubble Erik lets grow in, and the night unfolds like an erotic dream, tapping into an unexplored part of Angie’s body and mind.
But Heather’s seduction turns into a nightmare when Angie wakes up tied to the bed and is told she can’t leave. Alternately seduced and tormented by her lover-turned-captor, Angie is pulled ever deeper into a twisted world of pain-for-pleasure and multimedia exploits. As the stakes rise, both women give into a desire for connections neither has had, and Angie’s struggle to escape becomes a bigger dilemma: Would she leave if she could?
Winner of the Golden Palm Contest for New Adult Romance, this erotic thriller dares to explore the darker side of our fantasies and their sometimes unintended consequences.
Excerpt:
Her taut frame is sandwiched between an attractive couple. They don’t look much older than me, but they look fashionable and carefree, like they belong in a place like this. She’s suggestively pushing back and forth to the DJ’s evocative beats, letting her blonde mane bathe in the crest of the girl’s neck, until the guy grabs it and pulls it back, like he doesn’t want to get left out of anything. Their hands wander freely. It’s almost as if they’re not on a dance floor, but in a bedroom. Doing it standing up. She pulls the girl in tightly. She’s commanding. How I wish I was.
I turn my gaze back to my near-empty drink and the cell phone next to it. Still no response from my boyfriend to my voicemail and several text messages and it’s almost midnight. Where is he? I swirl the ice cubes in my glass.
He knows I’m not really into nightclubs. The drinking, the posturing…it makes Erik feel like he’s part of a squad. It makes me feel like I don’t fit in. But I don’t want to disappoint him, or myself. I can’t spend all of college immersed in books. These are supposed to be the defining years of my life, brimming with experiences that you reference forever, experiences that help you figure out who you really are.
I look back up at the mirrored wall. She has this look on her face, like there’s nowhere else she’d rather be. As if time has stopped just for her, so that she can feel every tensed, slick muscle, hear every throb of desire. Will I ever feel that?
Q&A WITH AUTHOR
Where do you get your book ideas?
Particularly for The Need, I was inspired by the screenplay my husband wrote. The Need started out as a spec script that my husband was hired to write in 2009. Unfortunately, the financing for the project fell through, which happens a lot in Hollywood. My husband shopped the script to a few more interested producers and agents, but that certain bit of magic that you need to make a movie come to life did not materialize.
I loved the story. Two strong female characters that get twisted into this dark love affair…it was the distraction I was looking for at the time (late 2012), so I asked my husband if I could adapt his screenplay into a book. He loved the idea, and in 2015, The Need was born. Do you write outline to start or just start writing? Outlines have definitely helped me write a first draft quicker and there always comes a point, when I really need to finish a book that I jot down some kind of outline. It may be really loose, or more detailed, but it becomes key.
However, I do also have a lot of fun with just thinking up a great character(s) and letting them run wild on the page to see what happens. A great technique I learned many years ago in a writing class had us writing the back story of a fresh character every week. Really delving into their childhood and the types of friends they had and lovers they took, and tragedies and experiences that shaped them. When I get stuck sometimes, I go back to this technique and start scribbling back story. Usually, by the time I’m done, I know the next turn the story is supposed to take.
How long does it normally take to write the book before edits?
I am not the fastest at writing a first draft, and it’s something I continually strive to improve. Right now, my average seems to be six months, but I would love to get down to three months because it would help me get books out faster. Plus, it’s always easier to edit, so I am trying to let go of the idea that my first drafts have to have everything figured out. It’s alright to leave placeholders for plot points and re-visit them during the editing process.
Are you an indie author or mainstream author?
Right now I still consider myself an indie author, but my goal is to become more of a hybrid author at some point. I love self-publishing, and my team of editors, designers, and marketers that I bring on board at different stages, but I would love to have an agent or publisher that helps guide my author career, and takes my stories to the next level, for example film or television options.
How did you get started, can you give people wanting to write an idea how to get started?
My very first book project was The Dentist and The Toothfairy; a short story that I turned into an illustrated novel with an artist out of Montreal, Canada. Jerome Prieur was a fairly well-established artist at the time with some good art gallery connections, so we published the book with the goal to sell it mainly at art galleries.
That is not how I would advise other writers to get started. My experience with The Dentist and The Toothfairy was thrilling, but very time-consuming and costly. If you’re a writer that wants to get published, write every day, complete one or two manuscripts, join writing organizations and groups that will help you network with various people in the industry, go to industry conferences. Learn as much as you can about the business side so that you can eventually decide whether you want to self-publish or work with an agent or publisher, or both. There are so many great opportunities for aspiring authors these days, but at the end of the day, you have to be committed to your writing.
New Release: RIPPED By Lisa Edward
RippedRBBanner
Ripped_ecover_REVEALFILE
Synopsis
According to the Oxford Dictionary, the definition of dance [da:ns] is “to move rhythmically to music, typically following a set sequence of steps.” Technically, that’s true, but dance is so much more. What the dictionary doesn’t mention is that the movement comes from within you, from the very depths of your soul, that place that holds all your hopes and fears, all your loves and losses. Dance is a form of expression, of all the emotions that make us who we are.
Jasmine Wilkinson
I’ve finally made it … only six years later than expected.
New York promises to be the experience of a lifetime, and if I’m lucky enough, a chance to dance on Broadway and fulfill a lifelong desire.
After graduating from Boston Conservatory, I’d intended to meet the love of my life, Baxter Sampson, in the city that never sleeps, and share the rest of my life with him. But sometimes dreams don’t go as planned, and we have to make new ones. I know Bax would have made it big; he was such a phenomenal dancer. I wish I could have been there to see it happen, but I can’t wait to catch a Broadway show and see his name in lights.
Maybe he’ll still remember me.
Baxter Sampson
Eight years in New York have all but stolen my dreams from me.
After years of auditioning for every contemporary ballet production in New York, I had to admit defeat. I wasn’t good enough to make it on Broadway. I wasn’t good enough for Jasmine, the only girl I’ve ever loved, to keep her promise and meet me here after she graduated six years ago. So my plans changed—they had to. But when there’s an inexplicable force driving you to perform, you have to catch the spotlight wherever you can, even if it’s in the last place you expected to find it. My life had always revolved around Jaz and dance, my two true passions. I’ve already lost one—I can’t lose the other.
GENRE: Crime Thriller
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Leathan Wilkey has been hired to babysit Clementina, a seventeen-year-old whose rich daddy is going through a messy divorce and is over-compensating.

Leathan soon tires of her spending habits, her selfie obsession, and her social media preoccupation as his ward drags him from shop to boutique to jeweler, approaching each with the self-possession that comes from a lifetime of getting her own way and never once having to worry about money.

But when Clementina snaps her fingers and her boyfriend doesn’t come running, something is up. He doesn’t appear because he’s been murdered.

When Leathan investigates, he finds that the boyfriend has no background and met Clementina through a connection made by daddy’s business partner.

Daddy’s business partner who has been slowly and progressively putting daddy in a vice, grabbing more of the business, and who is now menacing Clementina directly to manipulate daddy.

Excerpt:

Clementina was clearly offended.

Offended by my apparently uncouth utterance. Offended that I was not paying due reverence. Offended that I was thinking money, when I should be appreciating the art. Offended in the way that only a seventeen-year-old can be offended.

She was able simultaneously to be both a child and a world-weary adult. Neither of whom was accepting of my situation; both of whom were deeply saddened by my obvious circumstances.

She was saddened that I could live in a world like this.

Some people are saddened about famine in Africa. Some are saddened about wars or religious fundamentalists imposing their unyielding doctrines on populations, killing and mutilating children and innocent adults. Clementina was saddened and offended—on my behalf—that the world of jewelry and the exquisite pleasure of fine gems set in delicate pieces of lovingly shaped precious metal had been withheld from me.

She knew—as only one who had been indoctrinated into the secret society knew—that if I had been exposed to the world of bijouterie, then I would appreciate the treat that was waiting for me.

What she didn’t know was that I hated being patronized by seventeen-year-olds. Even if their father was paying me. Not that her father and I had actually done anything as tedious as agreeing a fee.

Or meeting.

Or talking. Even on the phone.

Simon Cann: interview

Have you ever had an imaginary friend?
Nope.

Do you have any phobias?
I was pretty phobic about needles (or more specifically, being injected by needles) for years. I’m getting better as I get older.

Do you listen to music when you’re writing?
I wish I could, but I need silence—or as near to silence as I can get—in order to write.

Do you ever read your stories out loud?
I tried, but it never stuck. I never felt comfortable talking to myself and the process didn’t improve the quality of my output.

Tell us about your main character and who inspired him
In a past life, Leathan Wilkey worked for a number of journalists in London. The journalists were bound by certain codes and had lines they were not supposed to cross—by subcontracting to Leathan they could achieve deniability. Not just that, but if any laws were bent, then Leathan was in the frame.
Leathan got a job with a journalist who was researching a story about human trafficking. Gangs bringing people—illegally and against their will—to the UK and then forcing them to work as prostitutes in brothels. There was a gang and the journalist wanted a guy on the inside—someone who could get him real evidence for the story and so Leathan found employment on the periphery of the enterprise.
It wasn’t pretty—and Leathan did things he wasn’t necessarily proud of—but it did get evidence for the story.
However, Leathan fell in love and the only way he could find to save the woman he loved was to involve the police. There were arrests which led to convictions and as a consequence, Leathan’s life was threatened by the gang—an international organized crime syndicate.
For Leathan the immediate need for survival necessitated him leaving London and leaving the UK. And because he was hunted by an international crime gang—who likely had corrupt influence in many jurisdictions—Leathan needed to drop off the radar and make himself effectively untraceable.
Leathan wasn’t inspired by a person so much as being inspired by a notion.
I began wondering how—as an author—I could create a character who was semi-detached from modern life (with no credit cards, mobile phone, or permanent place to live in order to be untraceable). That led me to the question of what sort of person would have the temperament for that kind of life and how someone might find themselves in the situation of having no other option but to live that way.
It seemed to me that someone with Leathan’s back story would fit the bill and from this kernel, the character started to come to life.

Hi there. I’m Angel: book lover, writing addict, hopeless romantic, pop culture geek and avid shoe lover.

Code word: FOLIAGE!

excerpt

He prayed silently as he approached the front door of the family home he no longer owned. As he opened it, feeling the unlatched door give way, he knew he had arrived too late. The sound of his wife weeping echoed in the other end of the house, and a single gunshot rang out. He ran to the back parlor, but a man in the doorway blocked his entry. His wife lay on the temple bed, naked, bruised; a single line of blood mixed with snot dripped from her nose. The worst had happened. She stared blankly at the smoke rising from the gun barrel pointed down at her dead brother-in-law.

The man stood motionless, gripping the briefcase full of cash, an utter failure. The gun now pointed in his direction as the killer-rapist walked toward him. The accomplice continued to restrain him with a raised finger. Young, barely twenty-five years old but wise in the ways of rape and murder, he tucked the gun into his jacket and slipped the briefcase from the man’s grip. He opened the case and eyeballed the amount of cash. He removed one bundle and handed it to his victim. “Spend what you have left wisely, and don’t do anything else foolish.” The killer nodded to his cohort that they were leaving.

“You are from a good Pakistani family, a fellow Mohajir. There is nothing noble in what you are doing,” the man whimpered.

“And yet you are still alive.” The two thugs walked out and continued casually down the road, confident no one would pursue them.

GENRE: Romantic Suspense

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Leanna Dixon has had enough. She no longer wants to be a punching bag for her husband, Mark. Without a word, she packs her bag and flees from her hell.
Arriving in her new home, things begin to go wrong from the start. Through all the bad she meets James, an Austin Police Officer, who helps her pick up the pieces of her shattered life.
***
Mark Dixon rules his women with an iron fist. When he arrives home and finds his wife has left him, his anger begins to build to dangerous levels. He knows he needs to find her and teach her a lesson, just as his father had done to his mother.
Will Leanna survive or will she become another statistic?
Excerpt:
After a day at the courthouse, James and Leanna head to the Double Deuce Bar and Grill to celebrate her first step in placing her mistakes in the past. James has Leanna twirling on the dance floor while sneaking kisses on her neck when he can. They’re both smiling and laughing that neither one notice the man in the corner of the bar eyeballing them. He takes a long drag from his cigarette while slanting his eyes at the happy couple.
Mark finds his anger growing stronger and deeper than he’s ever felt it before. Leanna hits nerves within him that he didn’t even know existed. He worked his ass off for her and took her in as his wife when her parents died. He worked twelve hour days to keep a roof over her head and food in her belly. All he asked from her was a hot meal on the table when he got home and a clean house. She didn’t have to do anything but those two things but no, that wasn’t good enough for her.
He crushes the cigarette in the ashtray and downs the whiskey before him. He swipes his mouth of the drops of amber colored drink. He rises from his seat and makes his way out of the bar—never taking his eyes off of Leanna. It won’t be long now and you’ll be mine again. And this time, I’ll never let you out of my sight.
REVIEW:
Leanna is running from her abusive husband Mark.  She leaves Georgia by picking a town off the board at bus depot.  She picked Austin, Texas, and got lucky.  There she meets James, a hot police officer.  James is the perfect guy, but Mark has followed her and is watching.  Read the book and see if James can save her.  I loved it and plan on looking for more books by this author.
