GENRE:   Thriller

A year after serial killer Michael Rhodes is executed and allowed to donate part of his brain as an organ transplant, Sergeant Wade McKinnon gets called to a murder scene that shares uncanny similarities to those of the late Michael Rhodes. Other similar killings happen around Seattle, and Wade seems to be the only person still alive who knows enough about Michael Rhodes’s murders to be able to replicate them. When evidence found at one of the crime scenes points to Wade as the killer, he races to find the real culprit before it’s too late to clear his own name.

Elle is overjoyed when her husband, Brian, gets a second chance at life when he receives a partial brain transplant after suffering a debilitating stroke at the age of thirty-seven. Their lives seem to return to normal, but Elle notices a disturbing change in Brian’s behavior. When Elle learns that her husband’s brain cell transplant came from Michael Rhodes, she fears that Brian now has the mind of a serial killer.

Goosebumps formed on her arms. She remembered it being all over the news when Michael Rhodes was executed and knew it was around the same time that Brian received his transplant. But it had never occurred to her that Brian’s transplant could have come from him.

She went to the computer nook just off the kitchen and opened her laptop. She ran a Google search for “Michael Rhodes organ donor.” A list of news articles came up, all of them dated just over a year before. She clicked on an article from Seattle’s biggest news station.

A video played at the top of the article, and Elle recognized the blonde reporter who appeared with a breaking news story. Elle turned up the volume on the laptop.

“Today, for the first time in our nation’s history, a convicted killer on death row will be allowed to donate his organs after his execution. A medical transport team will be standing by to connect the prisoner to ECMO, or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, after he is pronounced clinically dead. His body will then be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center.”

Elle closed the laptop and lifted the paper towel from her cut finger. Still bleeding. She reapplied the pressure and stared down at her computer. The late nights. Brian’s strange behavior. The lies. What if he wasn’t having an affair after all? What if Michael Rhodes’s brain cells had somehow changed Brian into a different person? No, she told herself, that wasn’t possible. If it were, it would mean I am married to a serial killer.

Wade is the police detective who put serial killer Michael Rhodes away last year.   Rhodes has been executed but now an eerie duplicate serial killer is killing women the exact same way.  Elle is married to Brian, won’t give too much away about him, but he received a partial brain transplant last year.  Elle has just found out he received the brain cells from serial killer, Rhodes.  This book has a lot of suspense and Wade is now being set up for the new murders.  Can he save himself and Elle?  This is an awesome story with amazing twists and turns.

EXCERPTS (Exclusive Excerpt):

“Josie?” My name, softly spoken, echoed from a distance.

“Don’t die. Please, Josie, I can’t stand to be alone anymore.”

Pain resurfaced, but was diminished. A little bit anyway, which was better than nothing, but not nearly so nice as the darkness. I sought the darkness, but it was gone and light crept in. Dim and dirty, but unyielding. I opened my eyes. The iron bars were still there. I slid my gaze to the left, toward the voice.           Darby was six feet away, sitting on concrete with her legs curled under, gripping her own set of bars. Her blue eyes shone bright with tears.

“Darby.” It was all I could manage past the dry grit in my throat. It had the vague limy taste of concrete.

“Thank God.”

I swallowed once, rubbing my throat. “Where?”

She shook her head. “Hell.”

Hell resembled iron bars backed with solid, dank concrete walls. That sounded about right.

“How long?”

“A day. Maybe more.”

I had been out for at least twenty-four hours. Panic threatened again. What had happened to me during those hours when I had been hiding in the darkness? I felt frantically at my clothes.

“He didn’t touch you, except to drop you on the mattress,” Darby said.

I met her eyes again. I may not have been touched, but she had. “Wes?”

She nodded. Darby’s T-shirt featured a basket of kittens. I recognized it from the snapshot of the teenage girl and fiercely hoped Darby didn’t know where it had come from. Her thighs were scraped and bruised. I saw the edge of a pair of cotton panties. Panties are panties and they could have come from anyplace. But these were mine. I just knew it.

“Has he raped you?”

She looked away. The way her cheeks flamed was an answer in itself. “Yes, but it’s not so bad. It’s quick and he goes away. He’s almost…nice.”

Every fiber of my being rejected that idea and I had to remind myself she had been imprisoned here for a week. Darby was preserving her life in the way she thought was the best. Wes might be almost gentle with her now. But when he got tired of her, he would turn Cain on her. Cain, driven by years of brutal training, would not be gentle. But Darby didn’t know that.

GENRE:  Romantic Suspense

They call him the Killer Cartographer because he carves the map coordinates of each victim on the femur of the one before. Then he tattoos the information on his skin. Can Detective Kendra Dean bring him in, or will she become his next tattoo?

This semi-retirement wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Going from working twelve to fourteen hours a day to not working at all was extremely difficult. Like shoving the gearshift into park going downhill at ninety miles per hour.

But now, things were looking up.

When she brought out her new eyeglasses and put them on, both Carrie and Rory complimented her so thoroughly that she began to feel better about wearing them. Getting older is definitely not for sissies, she told herself. And this is only the beginning. She’d always been inordinately proud of her 20/20 vision. I guess it’s true; pride does go before the fall.

Willa arrived around noon. She brought all the makings for broccoli-rice casserole, but she hadn’t actually made it. Willa was in her first year of college at Texas Tech. She would be transferring to veterinary school in Galveston after she got her Bachelor of Science degree.

Tech was a four-hour drive from Copper Lake. “I left early this morning,” she said, kissing her mom on the cheek. “But then I went the wrong way on the lake road and took the scenic route.”

Kendra rolled her eyes and enveloped her younger daughter in a bear hug. Willa was marvelous in science, but she never had possessed a stable sense of direction. She still got turned around in malls and parking lots. “So, who is he, this boy that’s making you drive the wrong direction? I assume you were either on the phone with him or thinking about your last conversation—”

“Oh, Mom,” Willa giggled. “His name is Sam, and he’s also pre-vet.” Her eyes sparkled. “And he’s very, very nice.”

Kendra felt something loosen inside her chest. Seeing her younger daughter so happy made everything better. “Well, he’d better be. I’m just surprised he isn’t in the car.” She glanced out the window as if she believed he might be hiding there.

Review: Blue Baby (BRANDON FISHER FBI SERIES) By Carolyn Arnold

Blue Baby Banner

Author: Carolyn Arnold

Genre: Mystery/Thriller

Publisher: Hibbert & Stiles Publishing Inc.

Hosted by: Lady Amber’s Tours

Blue Baby

Where light meets darkness…

Happiness is elusive for many, but from the killer’s standpoint, it’s something he creates. And he’s determined to get it right…at least one more time.

The murders were one year apart, but the similarities have the interest of the FBI. Both victims were found in their tubs, dressed in their wedding gowns. But that’s not the worst of it. When a third body is found, Brandon Fisher and his team make the chilling discovery that more than the killer’s method of operation connects the women.

THE WHITE SILK WAS DRAPED over the porcelain of the tub like angel wings. She was beautiful, radiant. Her face was flushed, and her eyes were open and staring at him.

He took the set of fake lashes from his pocket and applied them. He coated her eyeball with glue before delicately using both hands to pull her eyes closed. The extensions fanned against her flesh.

He applied the eye shadow and stepped back to appreciate the hues of brown and gold.

Next. Lipstick.

He smeared the tube across her lips. The bright red was an exquisite touch of color against her fair skin. He put the veil in place and wisped back the nylon until it framed her face and ensconced her shoulders. He stood back to admire his work thus far.

The blonde sat with her back against the end of the tub, her dress spilling down her frame and over the ledge. Her hair was a bed of curls beneath her veil. Her makeup appeared professional, and he was pleased with his hard work. He wasn’t nearly as perfect with the first one.

Her mouth carried a hint of peace. Of happiness.

The Big Event was under way.

His gaze went to her left hand resting in her lap.

How could he have been so foolish? Was he rushing things? He moved swiftly through her apartment and found what he sought on her dresser.

“There you go, beautiful.” He slipped the wedding ring on her finger, leaving him with one final task.

He took the cigar cutter from his pocket, slipped her ring finger into it, and squeezed. As he had the first time, he marveled at the ease of it, how such small blades were able to cut through bone. He let the severed finger fall against her ivory dress.

Stepping back, he took in her beauty.

She was pleased. It was in the way her lips were set.

He smiled. “Now, you can just be happy.”

This book is about a FBI profiling team who hunts serial killers.  Think Criminal Minds. This is an awesome mystery suspense read, it has great in depth characters with lots of police procedures.  This book will keep you turning the pages trying to figure out the clues along with the team, keeping you guessing until the end.

When Detective Investigator Layla Remington looks into that wretched metal coffin, she realizes she’s just landed the case of a lifetime.

But before Layla even strips off her latex gloves, a pair of hotshot LAPD detectives arrive on the scene and remove her from the investigation. Undeterred, she pursues her own line of inquiry. Risking her badge and her life, Layla’s determination to track down Tarin’s murderer takes her from the rarified air of exclusive canyon communities to seedy downtown sex clubs and the secluded lair of one of Hollywood’s most powerful men. But while Tarin’s case may be cold, her killer is poised to strike again—and in Layla, this depraved sociopath may have just found fresh prey.

Purchase: In His Eyes

My Review:

This was a great suspenseful read!  This book is very well written with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end who the killer is?  There are so many suspects and you don’t know which one until the last chapters.  He has been stalking Maggie every since he saw her on the beach the first night she moved into the beach cottage. Her and her husband Alex are having problems so she spends week at home, week at cottage alternating with him.  Stalker comes into her house and cottage at will it seems and leaves yellow roses only she thinks they are from Alex and doesn’t even know she is being stalked until midway of the book. Book flashes between Maggie, Alex, Stalker, and Rainmaker (FBI agent after the killer stalker). Plot is very well woven into the fabric of the story.  Loved the book!
